Ann Williams and The William Ensemble
Ann Williams was the lead singer of the local group Ann Williams and The Ensemble, a local church group from the Ninety Six area. Their well known gospel song “ You Been So Good To Me” was written by Ann at her kitchen table in Ninety Six while looking out her window as a tribute and thank you for blessings she received in her life.
The song was recorded in Nashville by Hoyt Sullivan.
It wasn’t long before Ann’s talent was discovered nationally.
Ann sang for Senator Drummond in the Town Square in Ninety Six, then at the State House in Columbia, where she was asked to sing for Jimmy Carter. Ann recorded a song she wrote called
“ God Bless the Peanut Man from Georgia”. She recorded the song in the studio of John McElrath’s (of the Swingin Medallions) in Ninety Six.
When Jimmy Carter became President of the United States, he invited Ann to sing at his inauguration. President Carter mentions Ann singing on pg 2574 of the Public Papers of the Preston the United States: Jimmy Carter 1980-81, also in his own autobiography on pg 88.
Additionally Ann sang for President Ronald Reagen, where she revised her song to “From Peanuts to Jelly Beans”.
Ann was also invited to the Presidential inauguration of President Bill Clinton but was unable to attend. Today Ann works at Walmart in Georgia and still shares her lovely voice.
